Ling Chun's Day & Night Moon Jars
In Chinese culture, the moon symbolizes reunion while also used to express a sense of loneliness and homesickness — a feeling that deeply resonates with Ling since she hasn't returned to Hong Kong in over 3 years.
Ling's moon jar series explores this duality of the moon's symbolism and her search for the meaning of belonging through the exploration of color and glaze. In the past year especially, Ling deeply yearned to be home, in Hong Kong. As she looked out up at the night sky, Ling searched for the moon she saw in Hong Kong, only to realize that she was staring at Seattle's bright sky and was only left with a sense of longing for home and family.
