Fitting In by Vivienne Leow

Prompted by Vivienne Leow's experience of finding a childhood notebook filled with Chinese characters she could no longer read, Fitting In is an illustrated story that navigates the complex feelings accompanying language erasure and the subsequent erosion of identity. Despite the inner turmoil that follows this journey, Fitting In makes space for healing and belonging through the ones who love us most.

Vivienne Leow is a Texas-based multidisciplinary artist, designer, and all-around thing maker whose practice centers the nuances of her Malaysian Chinese heritage. Her experience growing up across multiple continents as a third-culture kid is weaved through her pieces as she explores memory, connection, and erasure in a range of media, including painting, writing, fiber arts, and jewelry making. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2022 and most recently exhibited at _OFCOLOR ATX's RITUALS showcase. To connect, you can find her on Instagram @vivleow.
