Canton Rose Dinner Plates
These canton rose plates are deadstock from when our grandparents took their annual sourcing trips to Hong Kong. Canton Rose patterned porcelain also known as ‘guangcai’ or Canton porcelain is characterized by its vibrant colors, rigorous composition and sophisticated brushstrokes, using a combination of bright pigments of gold, pastel (fencai), blue, green and black, resulting in a luxuriant effect. Back in the Qing dynasty, guangcai was exclusively sold overseas, and foreign royal families as well as commissioners would come to Guangzhou to purchase. Guangcai is thus also known as “export porcelain”.
These dinner plates capture two different styles of Canton Rose one with more subdued colors than the other. Both are great for elevating any homemade meal :)
